Spice Girls comeback opening date planned to fit in with husband David Beckham's soccer appearance

Published: Saturday, July 28, 2007Bony fashion icon and soccer wife, Victoria Beckham is keeping mum on what sort of "fantastic" costumes she envisions for the much-hyped Spice Girls reunion tour -- set to kick off in Vancouver this December.
"It's going to be very, very stylish," Beckham said, speaking by phone from her family's Los Angeles mansion, Friday afternoon. "We want to keep that kind of thing a surprise."
Clad in a bikini, the star said she was spending a much-needed day at home with the family, her three sons and her soccer star hubby, David Beckham.
"It's been really hectic since we've moved here, you know, there's been so much going on," Beckham said, her crisp British accent as distinctive as her near-ubiquitous high-cheekboned profile and plump pout.
"I'm taking the day off," she said. "My family are here and yep, we're just going to spend the day doing fun stuff."
She's excited to chat about the Spice Girls reunion, though.
It will be the first time since 1998 that the all-girl group -- Beckham (Posh), Melanie Brown (Scary,) Emma Bunton (Baby,) Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Melanie Chisholm (Sporty) -- will perform together.
And fans are getting restless.
"We've been overwhelmed by the response," Beckham said, adding the group initially wondered if anyone would be interested in the reunion.
Well, it seems, their worries were unfounded. Since the June 8 reunion announcement, more than 3.5 million people have registered for tickets at www.thespicegirls.com.
A Dec. 2 concert in Vancouver will launch the 13-concert tour, which has no other Canadian stops. They'll have four shows in the U.S., then tour Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.
Why start a major comeback from Vancouver?
"Why not Vancouver?" Beckham said. "We've got so many incredible fans there so we want to come over and say thank you."
During her last trip here eight years ago, she and David were expecting their first child, Brooklyn. (Since then, they've had two more sons, Romeo James and Cruz David.)
"I just remember fans being really great, really friendly," she said. "They've always been so supportive and we just, we love Vancouver. We think it's a great place. . . we want to come back and we want to see more."
The tour dates and locations were scheduled around David's soccer schedule with the Los Angeles Galaxy, she said, since the entire family will stick together during the tour.
That means Vancouver will get a double dose of David, since his team is slated to play the Vancouver Whitecaps on Oct. 3 in an exhibition game.
"If they weren't coming with me, then I wouldn't be doing it," said Victoria Beckham. "We're going to go as a family. I'm going to take the kids out of school. They'll have a tutor."
While she misses spending time with her fellow Spice Girls -- whom she describes as "like sisters" -- her top priority is her family, she said.
Her three sons haven't seen her slip into her Posh Spice persona onstage before, she said. "My whole reason for doing this is for the children to see what I used to do and I'm really excited about that."
